LRMA Newsletter – 23 November 2017

Heads up - the Division of Resources & Geoscience is no longer mailing reminders to renew Mining Purposes Leases (MPL) or Mining Leases. An application to renew must be submitted 12 months prior to a lease expiring. The renewal form, ML8 is available on the Division's website.

Following years of lobbying by the LRMA the Division is now renewing MPLs for up to 21 years. Previously the Division would only renew a MPL for five years. It may be wise to ask for 21 years as it will save a lot of time and money for both miners and the Division. There is nothing preventing you cancelling or transferring the title prior to expiry should you not want an MPL for that long.

The application fee for a renewal is $3,000 plus $36 per hectare.

If you require any assistance with a renewal and drop into the LRMA office and we shall give you a hand for a small fee.

This Saturday 25 November 2017 will be last day for this year that the LRMA Opal Advisory Service will be sitting. The volunteers led by LRMA life member Joe Schellnegger offer a fantastic free service to opal miners every Saturday advising them on the likely value of their hard won opal.

The LRMA Opal Advisory Service will recommence their invaluable work at the Lightning Ridge Outback Resort on Saturday 3 February 2018 from 9am to 11am.

The following have applied for membership of the LRMA.  If any member has an objection to any of these membership applications please contact the LRMA office and your objection will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
