The weather is still very hot and thus there is not much action around the fields. I am not sorry I missed the 47C heat last Sunday. Apparently it was like standing under a hairdryer!

MALABAR ACCESS MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Land and Environment Court will be handing down the judgement for the ‘Malabar’ Access Management Plan on Tuesday 21 February 2017. Fingers crossed for a workable AMP. The LRMA will advise members of the result.

LIGHTNING RIDGE OPAL WINS AGTA SPECTRUM AWARDS

John Ford’s Spectrum Award winning 197 carat “Electric Blue” black opal and diamond necklace set in platinum was awarded the prestigious “Buyers Choice” Top Honour Spectrum Award by the American Gem Trade Association at their annual black tie gala on Saturday February 4th 2017 in Tucson Arizona.

The “Buyers Choice Spectrum Award” is chosen by thousands of jewellery professionals from all over the world who attend the six day AGTA Gem Show in Tucson, Arizona. Ford’s necklace along with over 20 other Spectrum Award winning designers were on exhibition with buyers casting their ballot for the “Best”.   

 

                                                                                          

 

CSIRO ARTICLE ON OPAL

Attached is an opal paper “Opal: the queen of gems” that was published in the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicist Preview in December 2016. It is quite interesting and features history of opal from ancient times along with scientific data.

LIGHTNING RIDGE AND SURROUNDING OPAL FIELDS RESERVE MANAGEMENT TRUST

Crown Lands will be visiting Lightning Ridge sometime in March 2017. They will be meeting with various groups in regards to the land that has been purchased by the government as part of the Voluntary Surrender Scheme and added to the Reserve Trust. Crown Lands will be holding a public information session. Once a date has been set the LRMA shall let its members know.

PLANS FOR COMMENT

There are two NSW government plans currently open for public comment. The first is the Draft Far West Regional Plan issued by the Department of Planning & Environment. The Draft Regional Plan aims to guide the NSW Government’s land use planning priorities and decisions in the Far West for the next 20 years. The Plan can be downloaded and comments can be made online at - http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/Far-West - or the LRMA can email you the draft plan if you are interested. The closing date is 13 March 2017.

North West Local Land Services has released its draft Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan for public consultation until 8 March 2017. A copy of the regional plans, factsheets, frequently asked questions and feedback forms are available on the Local Land Services Open website - http://open.lls.nsw.gov.au/nw-weeds  - or the LRMA can email you a copy.

The LRMA will be making submissions on these plans however any member of the public can also comment.
